2 Dead, 1 Critical Following Route 49 Crash in Elkland

NELSON TWP. – Two men are dead, and another in critical condition after an accident on Route 49 yesterday afternoon.

The crash happened in Nelson Township, east of Elkland, PA.

State Police say the two vehicles involved in the crash were leaving the Borough of Elkland, traveling east on Route 49.

Witnesses told police the cars were open-wheeled street rods, and were traveling at a high rate of speed, passing other motorists and one another, before losing control and crashing.

Killed in the accident was 55-year-old George Brown, of Nelson, PA, and Lawrence Burgess, of Millerton, PA.

Police say Burgess was a passenger in a second automobile, operated by 30-year-old Sheldon Moon, of Nelson, PA.

Moon was taken by medical helicopter to Robert Packer Hospital, where he remains in critical condition, as of the time of this posting.

Police say an investigation into the crash continues.

  5. They mean 23year old Sheldon Moon right? Also is he alright in the head still? I would rather the poor guy be ok in the head and in a wheel chair for life, then the complete opposite. Hope you pull through bud!

  6. They are having a Benefit for Sheldon next Saturday August 27th at the Elkland Moose. He is currently at a rehabilitation facility.
