4 Teenagers Injured after Accident Last Night Near Northern Potter High School

ULYSSES – Four juveniles sustained injury after an accident that occurred last night on Route 49 between the Northern Potter High School and the old Connie’s Market.

The four teenagers were traveling in a 1999 Dodge Caravan, which was westbound on Route 49 towards Ulysses. Police say the 17-year-old driver was traveling too fast for road conditions when he lost control of the van and slid into a ditch. The van then overturned, struck an embankment and then slid across the roadway, coming to rest on it’s roof facing westbound in the eastbound lane of traffic.

A 14-year-old girl, who was a passenger in the van, was ejected from the vehicle onto the right shoulder of the roadway.

Two other female passengers, one 14 and the other 16, both sustained injury in the accident.

The 17-year-old male driver suffered major injury in the accident. At the time of the crash it was reported that he had suffered extensive head trauma and was not breathing.

None of the teenagers were wearing a seatbelt. All four were transported to Charles Cole Memorial Hospital via ambulance.

The driver was later transported to Robert Packer Hospital. No word on his condition as of this article.

Police say charges of Driving Too Fast for Road Condtions and Restraint systems will be filed.

Genesee, Ulysses, Harrison Valley and Medic 6 all responded to the crash.

Update: Readers report that the girl ejected from the vehicle was 16 years old, not 14.
