Next meeting of the Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs Advisory Board will be held on Friday, Aug. 10, at Kaytee’s Restaurant in Coudersport, starting at noon. The board serves in a consulting role to Potter County Human Services in the delivery of prevention and treatment programs. Board meetings are open to the public. Among agenda items will be a preview of the upcoming public meeting to heighten public awareness of the local “21st Century Street Drugs” epidemic, particularly among teenagers and young adults. These largely synthetic drugs are often referred to as bath salts, salvia, herbal incense and a variety of contrived marketing names. Manufacturers and dealers skirt federal and state laws outlawing the substances by altering their chemical compounds and shifting marketing strategies. That 90-minute program will be held at 6 pm on Wednesday, Aug. 22, at the Gunzburger Building auditorium in Coudersport. For more information, contact Potter County Human Services at (814) 544-7315.
