Coudersport Man Jailed on Rape Charges

COUDERSPORT – Matthew A. Lawton, 18, of 117 Long Road, Coudersport, PA, has been charged by PA State Trooper Gleen Drake with the following ; 3 counts of (Felony 1) RAPE; 3 counts of (Felony 1) INVOLUNTARY DEVIATE SEXUAL INTERCOURSE; 4 counts of (Felony 1) AGGRAVATED INDECENT ASSAULT; 7 counts of (Felony 3) INDECENT ASSAULT; and 2 counts of (Misdemeanor 1) CORRUPTION OF MINORS.
Lawton is accused of raping a 10 year old female from Albion, NY, at his residence in Coudersport. Police also say that the girl’s 8 yr. old brother witnessed several of the acts, and was told not to tell anyone.
Lawton was arrested and arraigned on Monday in District Judge Barbara Easton’s courtroom. He was remanded to the Potter County Jail after failing to post $85,000 in straight bail. A Preliminary Hearing has been scheduled for July 19, 2010.
