Coudersport Woman Dead following Route 44 Crash

LYCOMING CO. – A Coudersport woman is dead following an accident on Route 44 yesterday, February 6.

Montoursville-based State Police say that Laura D. Gerhart, 50, of Coudersport, was driving a 2002 GMC Envoy on Route 44, when her vehicle slid off the road and struck a ditch.

Gerhart was transported to a Jersey Shore hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Her passenger, Delores M. Kellner, 73, also of Coudersport, was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital as a result of blunt force trauma to the chest.

Authorities say Kellner was pinned in the wrecked SUV for nearly 20 minutes, before rescue personnel, assisted by a PennDOT truck spreading cinders, could navigate the icy roads in order to reach the accident scene.

Both women were wearing seatbelts, but airbags did not deploy in the vehicle.
