COUDERSPORT – Avery Earl ‘Bud’ Buckingham, admitted accomplice in the murder of Samuel Miller, has been sentenced in Potter County court.

On Tuesday, Judge Stephen Minor sentenced Buckingham to spend a total of 40 to 80 years in prison for his role in the murder.

Buckingham earlier pleaded guilty to Murder of the Third Degree and Conspiracy to Commit Murder of the First Degree – a plea bargain which spared Buckingham a possible first-degree murder trial.

Jonothan Prather, admitted triggerman, is currently serving a life sentence in the shooting death of Miller. Authorities say Prather and his co-defendants conspired to kill Miller because he was going to tell police about a burglary the trio was involved in.

Sixteen-year-old Kaylynn Benson, of Coudersport, was recently sentenced to serve 10 to 20 years in prison for her role in the murder. Authorities say Benson helped to lure Miller into the woods and assisted in disposing of his body. Police also say Benson was responsible for attempting to conceal the murder weapon.
