Benson Sentenced to 10 – 20 Years in Prison for Third Degree Murder

COUDERSPORT – A Potter County teenager has been sentenced to spend 10 to 20 years in prison for her role in the murder of Samuel Miller.
Kaylynn Marie Benson, age 16, was sentenced before Judge Stephen Minor on Wednesday in Potter County court. Benson previously pleaded guilty to one count of Murder of the Third Degree(F1).
In addition to prison, Benson was ordered to pay a $10,000 fine, perform 200 hours of community service, and pay restitution for funeral services in the amount of $2,454.13. She was also ordered to pay for counseling services for the victim’s family in the amount of $1,089.37. An additional $1,000 was ordered by the court for additional counseling services. Benson was also ordered to pay $2,069 to the Erie Crime Lab.
Benson, who was accused of providing the weapon used to murder Miller, was arrested last year along with two other men after information surfaced that the trio was responsible for repeatedly shooting Miller, and then dumping his body in a nearby river.
At the time, Benson admitted to holding a flashlight while Avery Buckingham and Jonothan Prather dumped Miller’s body.
Benson, who was 15-years-old at the time of the murder, was charged as an adult.
I just moved to Coudy. I really thought I was moving to a place that didn’t suffer from crimes like this. After living in some of the worst areas in the North East and the South, I was hoping for a change for the better. I’m happy these people were caught and convicted. I’m sad someone had to loose their life because of other’s severely warped world views. And I honestly wish there was mandatory time for psychoanalysis for the convicts, the victims family and the parents of the underage teens who thought letting their children hang out with adults was a good idea.
Disgraceful- You are in for a culture shock. Sure everything looks so nice here but the local paper lies and protects low lifes. Lots of sexual abuse up here as well.
