COUDERSPORT, POTTER COUNTY – The National Weather Service in a public statement has confirmed an EF0 tornado struck Northeast Coudersport in Potter County on July 26, 2012.

The NWS said the tornado, which was associated with a line of strong thunderstorms, left a path approximately 150 yards wide and one quarter mile long.

Damage was limited to trees with no damage to houses. Additional damage, not related to the tornado, was reported county-wide in the overall path of the thunderstorm complex.

An EF0 tornado produces winds from 65-85 mph.

The NWS says this preliminary statement is subject to change pending final review of the events and publication in NWS storm data. Experts believe the tornado may in fact have been an EF1.

No one was injured by the tornado, but an associated storm claimed the life of an Andover, NY, woman.
