15-Yr-Old Girl Charged as Adult in Miller Murder

1 min read

COUDERSPORT – A teenage Coudersport girl has been charged as an adult in the murder of Sam Miller.

Fifteen-year-old Kaylynn Benson has been charged with first-degree murder, third-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and tampering with evidence.

Benson, along with 19-year-old Jonothan ‘Jeep’ Prather and 25-year-old Avery ‘Bud’ Buckingham are accused of shooting 18-year-old Samuel Miller to death, and then dumping his body in the Prouty Run Creek.

Miller’s body was found in the creek last Saturday by a fisherman. An autopsy confirmed that Miller was shot 8 times.

Authorities say Benson aided in the disposal of Miller’s body by holding a light while Prather and Buckingham dragged his body to the creek.

Both Prather and Buckingham have been charged with first-degree murder and are currently being held in the Potter County Jail without bail.

Benson is being detained in a juvenile detention facility without bail.

A memorial service for Miller is scheduled for this Tuesday at the Burch Grove Mennonite Church in Port Allegany.

  1. wow. i don’t think this girl has any idea what she is in for…MY MOM worked in the state prison system as a officer. in a woman’s prison…. SWEET girl you will not enjoy being in the only 2 WOMAN’S prisons we have in the state… and yes you are 15 but being charged as an adult your world is over…….

  2. EVERY PERSON UNDER THE AGE OF 21 should be make to attend this trial. MAYBE it would shock a little reality into their lives.

Life IS NOT TV or VIDEO GAMES. There are no do-overs or second chances.

  3. The law is the law. No one here should be given special consideration or a ‘do over’ as if this isn’t the most heinous crime.

Everyone knowingly involved deserves and should be charged with “Capitol Murder”—PREMEDITATED, oh ya!

Further more I believe in the death penalty and believe it should be applied in every premeditated muder conviction.

After all, the murdered person doesn’t get a ‘do over’ and doesn’t have the option of ‘coming back to life’ They didn’t have the advance knowledge of what these low lifes were planning, so they didn’t have even the opportunity of defending their own life. DID THEY?

  4. I cannot fathom why a mother, or parent in any case, would allow their 15 year old daughter to A-date a guy that much older…B-permit the guy to live in her house with said daughter….and C-go hang out UNSUPERVISED with said 19 year old and his 25 year old friend! Why hasn’t CYS been involved in removing the other child from the home? The system seems to be failing kids in this area….but then again..sadly there are too many parents failing their kids as well…I hope that this was all worth it to her in the end…she will probably never see freedom again for a very very long time.

  5. Question, she held the flash light, was told that she would receive the same if she didn’t help or told. I believe her charges should be brought to maybe man slaughter since she didn’t do the killing. It just a question don’t jump all over me.

  6. I Disagree Mike. First she knew they were planning on killing Sam. I mean really she was in the car when Bud knew he was getting picked up to kill him. She was at the Walmart right? She held the light yes? Then she didn’t say anything for a week. Also she’s been charged with tampering with evidence. What’s that tell you? she even tried to cover the murder up. Obviously this girl has more than a screw loose to participate in such a heinous act. I say try her as an adult. Let it be a wake up call.

  7. This is my opinion nothing more.. First let me say my deepest sympathy goes out to ALL families involved. People have blamed the parents, the system, the lack of things to do to keep children occupied, but in truth there is no one to blame but the people who did this! There is blame to be placed on the mother of the juvenile mother for allowing her daughter to hang out with these people, but the mother can not be blamed for this act.All three of these people choose to make this life changing act Altho only one person pulled the trigger all three knew of and planned this cold blooded murder. Yes Kaylynn is now saying they threatened her life….Is that the truth? Who really knows. Could Kaylynn or Avery have stopped this from happening YES!!!!! They knew for 3 long weeks that it was going to happen. No maybe they did not know they exact time or place until the night of, but they knew. If in fact Kaylynn helped because she was scared she could have talked to the police before it came to this and they would have been placed in jail and she would have been safe. There are things I do not agree with such as someone talking to the police about drugs to get themselves out of trouble. I believe no matter what if a person is found guilty of a crime they should face the punishment regardless of if they “narc” or not. In this situation I think they should all be in jail for the rest of their lives. Sam was thrown in that creek without knowledge of how long his body would lay there. I do not care what part any of them played rather it was hold a light move the body or actually pull the trigger THEY ARE ALL GUILTY!!! Not only have the lives of the families been destroyed but the lost of a friend is just as great as the lost of family. There are people who walk into your life that leave a mark bigger than any mark a family member could leave and to those who speak of their memories of Sam it seems to be the same story he was this kind of person. So his friend all lost a choosen family member because some thug(s) were afraid he was going to get caught for breaking and entering. I really wonder if they thought they were going to get away with this murder. Some may say I do not know what I am talking about, but I have lost my best friend a friend who was more like a brother to me. It has been 5 years and the pain of his loss is just as raw as it was the day he passed. To the friends and family of all (and I say of all, because altho the actors of this crime are still living their quality of life is now non-exsistant) when people tell you the pain will go away it never does. Hold on to the memories because no matter what happened that is one thing that can never be taken from you.

  8. Please don’t play the “I was afraid to talk because they threatened me” card. These idiots really thought they would get away with this heinous crime, so no confession was necessary by any of them, especialy Kaylynn, who was the girlfriend of the accused shooter. Her loyalty clearly lay with protecting her boyfriend, their friend Avery and her own a**. Even while her younger sister reportedly was frantically trying to find her boyfriend Sam, these low life continued to live in the same household. It’s said water seeks it’s own level. I only hope these miniscule droplets of humanoids find the big river to their liking with their own kind.

  9. Ya, these losers think that they are ‘gang members” or said to be “gang members”, wait until they get to prison and meet some real “gang members” and see what they do to them. Maybe they will just get a$* raped for the rest of their lives and see how that treats them!!!!

  10. this girl deserves it..she used to be my bestfriend before i went to her house to drink. she drugged me in one of my drinks. and threw me into a snow bank to die. some friend!!..and this happened a month before she helped kill sam miller!.
