Showdown on natural resources
With the promise of increased Marcellus Shale gas well drilling in the region over the next several years, many are concerned about the potential harm that could be done to our local natural resources. A lot is on the line in an area defined by its vast tracts of unbroken forest, pristine mountain streams, and wilderness character.
The natural gas industry and its supporters claim that a tax on the gas that’s produced would force them to move to other states. Proponents of the tax claim that this is simply not true and a tax would provide funding for cash-strapped local municipalities whose infrastructure is being destroyed by the heavy natural gas industry-related traffic.
Coudersport runs over Rams
Coudersport opened its 2010 varsity football season with an impressive offensive display last Friday at CARP Field.
Although the 35-22 win over Johnsonburg was a confidence-builder, the Falcons are headed to Kane to meet a tough foe for week 2 and will be hosting star running back Ricky Pearsall and the Elk County Catholic Crusaders next Friday at CARP (7 pm).
Two big plays in the second quarter broke open a close game as head coach Chris Fink won his debut.
Properties expected to dwindle further before tax sale
A concerted effort by Potter County Tax Claim Bureau (TCB) staff has led to the collection of tens of thousands of dollars in delinquent taxes and fees in recent weeks.
Nevertheless, dozens of property owners who still owe their 2008 taxes face the prospect of their holdings being sold by auction on Monday, Sept. 13, during the TCB’s annual Upset Sale. It’s scheduled for 9 am at the Gunzburger Building.
