Some Banking Customers Affected by Possible Compromise of Check Card Info.

1 min read

Some Citizens and Northern banking customers have recently received notification that their Visa Check Card information may have been compromised by a third party.

A letter sent by the bank to some customers reads,

Citizens and Northern Bank was recently notified that certain card account information may have been compromised at a third party location. This may have included your Visa Check Card account number. Because ensuring your security is top priority for us, we are taking the proactive step of closing your current Visa Check Card.”

The letter states that customers will receive a new PIN mailer, followed by a new Visa Check Card within 7 – 10 days. The letter also instructs cardholders to update their new information with any merchants that automatically deduct payments using their old check card information.

According to the letter, the change will not affect checking account numbers or any other accounts linked to check cards.

A spokeswoman from Citizens and Northern told CoudyNews that such occurrences are commonplace, and they took the precautionary measure after being notified by Visa.

We were also told that the bank was not aware of any accounts that had actually been compromised.

The letter states that customers may contact the bank during normal business hours by calling 1-800-577-8001.
