Ulysses Woman target of Phone Scam

1 min read

ULYSSES – A Ulysses woman was allegedly the target of a possible phone scam.

State Police say a known 49-year-old woman reported she received a telephone call from someone purporting to be from Publisher’s Clearing House.

The woman told police the caller informed her she had won $1.5 million, and in order to receive the monies, she needed to purchase a $200 reloadable pre-paid debit card and then provide the receipt number to the caller.

The woman, who believed the call to be a scam, reported the incident to State Police on August 26.

Authorities remind the public to be aware of phone scams, and never disclose personal information to unknown callers.

  1. There is and has been another phone scam in the area. They call and tell you your credit card is in good standing so they would like to lower your interest rate. They then ask you for your credit card numbers and information. First of all they never volunteer to lower your interest rate and secondly if they are calling you from the company they would already have the information that they are asking you for. When I questioned them about this they hang up on me. I also reported it to PSP but there is so little they can do. So everyone beware!
