Virginia A. Peebles, 91, of 440 Congress Street, formerly of Derrick City, passed away, Tuesday, January 4th, 2011 at The Pavilion at BRMC.

Born April 23, 1919, in Bradford she was the daughter of the late Guy C. and Viola (Wienke) Smith.

On January 13, 1940, in Bradford she married Jack W. Peebles who died on August 26, 2008.

Mrs. Peebles was a 1936 graduate of Bradford High School and trained as a nurse at the Lutheran Hospital in Cleveland and Case Western Reserve University. She worked as a surgical technician. at the Bradford Hospital in the operating room. For over 20 years she worked at Corning Glass Co. in the sales department, the lab and retired from the computer department in 1979. She was a member of Phi Beta Psi.

Surviving are three daughters: Sandy (the late Jack) Zeltwanger of Bradford;, Lynn (Dave Upperman) Larson of Corry and Jill (Kevin) Dibble of Smethport, 6 grandchildren; Kelly Peebles, Kim Snow, Denise Miller, Emily Dibble, Sam Dibble and Nick Dibble, four great grandchildren; Damien Larson, Christopher Phillips, Kara Baker and Brettney Snow, 3 great great grandchildren; Emma Baker, Hailey Baker and Brendon Baker and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son Jack Peebles and a grandson John Peebles.

At the family’s request there will be no visitation. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family with Rev. Ted Marconi, pastor of Our Lady of Peace Church in Erie officiating. Burial will be in  Willow Dale Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc.
