Westboro Baptist Plans to Protest Funeral for 7 Kids Killed in Fire

1 min read

The Westboro Baptist Church has made it known that they plan to protest the funeral of the 7 children who were killed in a horrific farmhouse fire in Pennsylvania this week.

U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released the following statement after the Westboro Baptist Church threatened to protest the funeral of seven children killed in a Perry County fire this week:

“Westboro Baptist Church’s repeated exploitation of personal tragedy is disgusting.   They have protested funerals of troops killed serving their country.  Now it is targeting the funeral of children.  The protesters should stay in Kansas and pray for the Clouse family.  The U.S. Supreme Court may say that they can continue to preach hate, but that doesn’t mean we should tolerate their actions in Pennsylvania.  If this protest goes forward, I hope that the people of Perry County and the Midstate will come out to support the family.”

Last year, Senator Casey signed on to an amicus brief filed to support the Supreme Court case to protect the right of families to not have military funeral services disrupted by protests.  The Snyder v. Phelps case was filed by the father of Marine Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder after his funeral was protested in 2006.  Albert Snyder is a resident of York, Pa.

  1. It turns my stomach to even think about giving these people attention by publishing this article, but on the other hand, I figure by doing so the public will be more informed as to their plans, and perhaps can act accordingly.

Make no mistake, protesting this funeral is beyond appalling, but freedom of speech is freedom of speech, and that means there is but one measure to counter the actions of this organization, and that is YOUR freedom of speech.

Various veteran groups and others have done a good job at defending soldiers and their families from these protesters. I believe this is one instance where we should all come together and make our voices heard.

With that said, I urge anyone, willing and able, to consider attending in support of this family who has without a doubt suffered too much already.

  2. It is absolutely disgusting that they want to disrupt the funeral of these 7 kids. It won’t bring them back. For God’s sake, they should let them rest in peace – or at least let folks pay their last respects in peace. This funeral is going to be so hard for so many. And these folks – Westboro Baptist Church – call themselves Christians? It makes me sick.

  3. This is sick, and sad at the same time. Those people are not Christians and they are liars. My heart feels so bad for this family and then you have ignorant people such as these waiting to cause more hurt.

  4. Now what will that accomplish? As Christians we are supposed to be exhibiting love not hate. The fire was a tragedy and this family needs to be supported and prayed for right now. I can’t imagine the pain they are going through. I just hope and pray that the people planning to protest the funeral will be convicted and not do this horrible thing. The last thing this family needs right now is more pain.
The one thing I don’t get is why they want to protest. Protest what? Death? Hard working families? The actual act of holding a funeral? That just doesn’t make any sense.

  5. Just wanted to assure this family that lost so much, the cult of this so called church (their house) is NOT NOT NOT speaking for the other 99 % of the State of Kansas

  6. They have the right to say whatever they want and I would be against anything that silences them. That being said, there needs to be laws passed on where they can tout their hate speech. On a public corner somewhere in town, fine. At a funeral or within 1000 feet of a funeral, not fine. Freedom of speech needs to come with people being responsible with how and when they use it. Since these people seem to lack common decency, its apparent something needs to be done to force it upon them.

  7. Just what are these idiots protesting? I doubt they even know. This type of thing tends to convince me that what George Bernard Shaw said. “The last Christian died on the cross.” So sad.

  8. I think that the church is disgusting. Why would anyone protest a funeral while people are mourning for their lost children.! They are a disgrace to society, and Christian people. God bless

  9. i cant see how people can be so disrespectful expecialy a church that so called church needs to grow up and stop picking fights…there is a time and a place to tell how you feel about something and to do that to family is so wrong. my prayers r with the family and everyone else effected by this. they will be judge when their time comes. The church beliefs makes no sense. make love not war.
