WINTER STORM WARNING – 6 to 8″ of Snow Possible

Winter Storm Warning in Effect From 10 AM This Morning to 4 Am EST Monday…

POTTER AND TIOGA COUNTIES…

The National Weather Service in state college has issued a winter storm warning for heavy snow, which is in effect from 10 AM this morning to 4 AM EST monday. the winter storm watch is no longer in effect.

* location, potter and tioga counties.

* precipitation type, rain will turn to heavy snow later this morning.

* accumulations(6 to) 8 inches.

* timing, rain will turn to snow later this morning and the snow will become heavy in the afternoon. a mix of wintry precipitation is possible for an hour or two as the change occurs. the snow will taper off just after midnight.

* winds, southerly at first, then turning to the northwest late this morning, then continuing to turn to the north in the afternoon. speeds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts of 30 mph will create areas of blowing snow.

* impacts, rapidly deteriorating road conditions due to heavy wet snow. initially wet roadways may allow a layer of ice to form on untreated roadways beneath the snow. the heavy snow could cling to trees and power lines, and the gusty winds may lead to some power outages.

* temperatures, in the 40S and 50S very early this morning will drop very quickly into the lower 30S before noon.

* visibilities, below one quarter of a mile at times.
