CCMH Announces New Board Members

Charles Cole Memorial Hospital’s newest trustees of the board of directors were recently announced at the hospital’s annual meeting of its corporate advisors.

J. David Buckler and Jeanne Miglicio, JD, LLM were elected as new board members and Thomas Shaffer was appointed by the board to fill a vacancy.

Buckler serves on the hospital’s performance excellence committee. He is the owner of Buckler Transport and serves as chairman of the Potter County Housing and Redevelopment Authority, is a Family Life Network and Coudersport Free Methodist Church board member, and is a member of the Potter County Leadership Steering Committee, Gas Task Force Committee, and the Pennsylvania Motor Trucking Association. He and his wife, Annette, have a daughter and son and live in Coudersport.

Miglicio is a member of the hospital’s finance committee. A lifelong area resident, she operates a private law practice in Emporium. During her career, she served as a legal fellow with the U.S. Senate Finance Committee. She received the 2002 Pennsylvania 50 Best Women in Business Award. She is a member of the American and Pennsylvania Bar Associations and serves on the Community Education Council of Elk and Cameron Counties and Guy and Mary Felt Manor boards. She and her husband, Dennis, have two daughters and a grandson and live in Emporium.

An attorney with an interest in patent law, Tom Shaffer is a member of the Potter County and Pennsylvania Bar Associations, Potter County Fine Arts Council, and Austin Dam Memorial Association. He is also a volunteer for the Robert B. Merten Circle of Fifths Scholarship Award. He is a former coach and chairman of the Inner City Baseball Committee and Coudersport Chamber of Commerce, and a former trustee for Park United Methodist Church. He and his wife, Terri, live in Coudersport and have three children.

Incumbents Ron Caskey and Susan Kefover were also re-elected to the board.

Caskey is serving his second three-year term. He is a retired teacher and is a PIAA softball and baseball official and a member of the Port Allegany School Board, the Port Allegany Zoning Hearing Board, Liberty Lodge 505 F&AM, and the Coudersport Consistory. He and his wife, Bonnie, have two daughters and a granddaughter and live in Port Allegany.

Kefover is serving her second three-year term and serves on the board’s quality and safety council. A Potter County commissioner, she is a member of the Northwest County Commissioners Association, Workforce Investment Board (Chief Local Elected Officials Board), Human Services Committee of the County Commissioner Association of Pennsylvania, Potter County Human Services Advisory Board, Potter County Agency on Aging Advisory Board, First Citizens National Bank Advisory Board, Marcellus Shale/Natural Gas Task Force, and the Galeton Development Corporation. She and her husband, M. Jay, live in Galeton.

In other business, Paul Pritchard was named chairman of the board replacing Charles Updegraff who served in that position since 2004. Pritchard is serving his third three-year term on the board. He served as the board’s treasurer since 2002 and also serves on the building and grounds, finance, audit and compensation, and executive committees. Pritchard is Northwest Savings Bank’s branch manager in Galeton. He is also a Pike Township supervisor and a member of the Galeton Moose Club, Chamber of Commerce, Main Street Steering Committee, Rotary Club and Main Street Steering Committee. He and his wife, Abbie, live in Galeton.

The hospital board of directors consists of 13 trustees elected to three-year terms by the more than 90 corporate advisors. The board consists of physicians and community leaders with various backgrounds from the region served by the hospital.

The Governance Institute, an organization whose stated purpose is to improve the effectiveness of hospitals and healthcare systems by continually strengthening their boards of directors, describes the role of a hospital board to set the overall direction and strategy by determining policy, making decisions, and overseeing overall organizational performance.
