New Law Would Require State-Provided Vehicles to Have Special License Plates

State employees who drive around in a state-provided vehicle will be easier to spot under a legislation that passed the Pennsylvania Senate.

The bill, sponsored by Sen. Mike Folmer, R-Lebanon County, would require all state vehicles, except those used by law enforcement and elected officials, to bear a blue “official use” license plate. Folmer called it a small step on the road to reform but a big step toward openness and transparency.

The proposal also would require individual departments to post on their websites the names and job titles of the department employee or contractor assigned state vehicles and the make and year of the vehicle each is assigned. The list is to be updated every 90 days but the previous years’ lists are to remain posted.
