Vets will be travelling through Coudersport and Austin today – Come out and show your support

County residents are being asked to turn out on Tuesday afternoon (June 15) to greet some special guests who will be passing through. God’s Country Chapter of Trout Unlimited is holding its third annual “Project Healing Waters” fly-fishing program next week, providing four days of outside recreation and relaxation for more than a dozen disabled military veterans. The vets and their escorts are due to arrive in Coudersport on Rt. 44-49 north/east sometime around 2:30 pm Tuesday as they progress from a gathering in Shinglehouse to the Big Moore’s Run Fish and Game Preserve. They will also be travelling through Austin, behind a fire truck from Odin to Elliott St. bridge, down Turner St. and then back up to Main St. and on to Costello.

The veterans come from VA hospitals in Erie, Buffalo and Batavia. All activities, services and equipment are provided at no cost, including equipment that accommodates the vets’ special needs. Representatives of local veterans’ organizations and motorcycle riders will provide an escort. County employees are being encouraged to step away from their desks for a few minute to welcome the motorcade. Among those who joined in the reception outside of the Gunzburger Building during last year’s visit was young Viggo Brown, son of Chief Clerk Todd Brown and his wife, Micki.
