Local Commissioners Attending Statewide Conference

Topics ranging from veterans’ affairs and changing tax laws to human service programs and criminal justice are on the agenda at the fall conference of the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania (CCAP), which kicks off in Hershey on Sunday. Commissioners Susan Kefover and Paul Heimel, along with Human Services Administrator Jim Kockler, are representing Potter County. At the same time, Commissioner Doug Morley and Chief Clerk/Director of Administration Todd Brown will continue the preliminary work on the county’s 2011 operating budget, which will be a primary focus of the entire aboard immediately after the Thanksgiving holiday (see story below from Nov. 20).

Multiple educational and policy-making sessions are scheduled simultaneously at this week’s conference. Kefover sits on the CCAP Human Services Committee and Heimel is on the Energy, Environment and Land Use Committee, as well as the organization’s Natural Gas Task Force. CCAP’s directors will be addressing delegates on state and federal government developments that will have a direct impact on counties. Among guest speakers will be U.S. Senator-elect Pat Toomey and Michael Blake, an intergovernmental affairs advisor to President Barack Obama.
