Verizon, AT&T join protest

Now that the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) has made the decision to split the 814 area code, protesters are seeking to save it.

The PUC made the decision to split the area code from Shinglehouse westward on December 16.

Now, an online petition has garnered over 5,000 petitions from consumers who want to keep the 814 area code and overlay it with a new one.

Verizon and AT&T have also joined the protest, saying an overlay is the least painful method of adding additional area codes to the service area.

  1. PLEASE KEEP THE 814 AREA CODE FOR THE CURRENT CUSTOMERS AND ALOW THE NEW #’S TO HAVE THE NEW AREA CODE.

  2. save the 814 for the ones who have it NOW. give new area code to NEW customers. this will save a lot of confusion
