HARRISBURG – The 54 day long PA tax amnesty program yielded $261 million in revenue, exceeding it’s goal by more than $71 million, said Gov. Ed Rendell.
The program allowed PA citizens and businesses to pay back taxes without penalties and additional interest.
There is an estimated $550 million still owed in back taxes. Rendell said he is going to ask legislators to add an additional $2.3 million to a budget to allow for hiring 40 more collections agents to track that money down.
Officials also plan to step up collection efforts, by strengthening wage garnishments and by publishing the names of people and businesses with liens in PA on online.
