Rotary Offers Youth Leadership Camp Scholarship
2 min readKaren Cahilly, President of the Coudersport Rotary Club, announced earlier this week that the Club is now accepting applications to the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Camp (“RYLA”) from area Juniors and Seniors. The RYLA Camp will be held June 12-15, 2011 at Juniata College, Huntingdon, PA. and the Coudersport Rotary Club will randomly select one student from the area for its annual camp scholarship; a value of $300.00.
RYLA is a competitive leadership program that consists of a 3-day seminar called Camp RYLA where students learn leadership skills by participating in team building exercises and community service and leadership projects. Last year, 66 youth from over 30 communities across Pennsylvania and West Virginia attended the camp.
The Coudersport Rotary Club looks for candidates ages of 16 to 18 who have a good academic record and involvement in school activities (athletics, fine arts, student government, etc.) to represent the Coudersport area each year. According to George Hults, Rotary District Assistant Governor, “It not enough for students planning to attend college to merely have good grades anymore. Our students must get involved in activities that distinguish them from the thousands of A/B students applying to college each year.”
