biomass-energy2Business owners, school administrators and others who face rising heating and cooling bills may be interested in a workshop planned for Tuesday, April 5, at the Coudersport Consistory. More than a dozen agencies and organizations are pulling together to present a program on using biomass — wood, wood residue and dedicated agricultural crops — to produce energy. The workshop, which runs from 9 am to 4 pm, will include a look at four case studies of conversion to biomass for energy. There will also be presentations on economics, biomass source options and aspects of planning, design, engineering and equipment.

State and federal funds are available for certain biomass projects implemented by schools and businesses. More information about Tuesday’s program, known as Pennsylvania Fuels for Schools and Beyond, is available at 570-265-5288, extension 5. Cost is $15 per attendee, which includes materials. Among local sponsors are the Potter County Board of Commissioners, Penn State Cooperative Extension, and the Pa. Bureau of Forestry.
