National Fuel Seeking Approval for Marcellus Shale Gas Line Project

National Fuel Gas Supply Corp. will be seeking approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to build an approximately 82-mile Marcellus shale gas pipeline through Cameron, Clearfield, Clinton, Elk and Jefferson counties.

Residents have until June 21 to provide input on the proposed gas pipeline project, called the West to East — Overbeck to Leidy Project.

The purpose of the project “would be to transport locally produced Marcellus shale gas,” explained Sandra James, the assistant director of corporate communications at National Fuel.

Before the project can be approved, the land needs to be surveyed and an environmental assessment must be done, James added.

If the project is approved, construction would take place in two phases. Phase one would be between Weedville and Renovo, and phase two would be between the Overbeck Station near Sigel and Weedville. The Marcellus shale gas that is produced will go to market when it reaches Leidy Station, which will be near Renovo. Read more
