Training Available For Jobs In Natural Gas Industry

Many jobs in the natural gas industry require training, much of which is available locally. Potter County Education Council will hold a six-week certified well tender course at its Port Allegany office. The training covers many topics important to the industry and is supported by about three dozen companies in Pennsylvania. These firms have provided input into the course content and have hired participants who have completed this program in other locations. Key topics include: understanding production, transportation, and distribution of natural gas; safety; and the particulars of well-tending. Classes are from Sept. 26 to Nov. 18, Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm at the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center in Port Allegany. Course fee will be $7,995. Training is also scheduled for individuals who are seeking pipe welding employment in the petroleum industry. This course is intended for individuals with welding skills will provide an introduction to pipe welding based on the American Petroleum Institute standards. The majority of time will be practicing welding techniques. Before admission, students must complete a test weld that will be evaluated by the instructor. These will be scheduled for Aug. 22 or 23, between 9 am and 2 pm, notification of admission to the program by Aug. 31 Courses will be held Mondays through Wednesdays, Sept. 12 to Dec. 14, from 5:30 pm to 8:30 p. at the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center.
