A seminar to be presented on the internet at 1 pm today (Thursday, Sept. 15) will examine legal issues associated with Marcellus Shale natural-gas development in Pennsylvania. Wells and pads, pipelines and other developments have created legal dilemmas for residents and municipalities. In the webinar, Ross Pifer, clinical professor of law at Penn State, will talk about legal developments, statutes, regulations and court rulings. Pifer also intends to discuss regulations from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, river basin commissions, the PUC and DEP.
Those who sign up for the webinar will be able to pose questions to Pifer following his presentation. Information about how to register is available on the webinar page of Penn State Extension’s natural-gas website at
http://extension.psu.edu/naturalgas/webinars . Those planning to participate are advised that the registration process can take several minutes.
Previous webinars archived on the site can also be viewed, covering topics such as air pollution from gas development; water use and quality; zoning; gas-leasing considerations for landowners; implications for local communities; and gas pipelines and right-of-way issues.
