JEFFERSON CO. – During a nearly three-hour opening statement, Jefferson County District Attorney Jeff Burkett drew a “road map” for the jury in the Steven P. Rebert murder trial.
Burkett told the jury of eight women and four men that Saturday night, April 10, 2010, was “just like any other Saturday night at home” for Wayne and Vicky Shugar in their home on Coal Tipple Road in Snyder Township near Brockway.
“Little did they know the terrible fate that awaited them that night,” he said. The couple were found shot to death on the afternoon of Monday, April 12.
Burkett proceeded to build a road map he says implicates Rebert, who is charged with two counts each of criminal homicide and aggravated assault, one count of burglary, one count of robbery and one count of theft.
