State Trooper turned off recording devices while administering sobriety test to off-duty Trooper

A state police trooper has been charged with tampering with evidence after state police say he turned off a device that was recording a sobriety test being administered to an off-duty trooper.

Ryan D. Henschel, 32, of Philipsburg, was also suspended without pay, according to a news release issued by state police. He is a six-year veteran of the force.

Henschel, according to the news release, was on duty on March 20 at about 9:15 p.m. when he learned that an off-duty trooper was involved in a crash and had requested a tow for his vehicle. Henschel responded to the scene and determined the incident was a reportable crash. He then contacted the Clearfield barracks and notified them of the crash.
