Cigarette Tax Protest Planned at Yahoo
Gov. Paterson may be met with hostile welcome
LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) – A big day for Lockport Monday could also see some big protests.
Governor Paterson and Senator Charles Schumer will be in town Monday for the opening of Yahoo’s long-awaited data center.
But they’ll be met by Tuscarora and Seneca nation members protesting the state’s attempt to collect taxes on cigarettes sold on reservations.
A federal judge’s ruling has blocked those taxes until at least next month.
