Animal Cruelty Arrest
A disturbing case of animal cruelty has led to the arrest of George K. Jones, a 57-year-old male, by the City of Bradford Police Department. On December 10, 2025, authorities responded to a report of abandoned dogs in a makeshift campsite in the woods above Tuna Avenue. Upon investigation, officers found three severely malnourished dogs, with one in critical condition, and no evidence of recent care or attention.
The campsite, where Jones claimed to be living with the dogs, showed signs of neglect, with a makeshift shelter made of wood and plastic tarp. The dogs’ condition was deemed critical by Sgt. Shephard, a seasoned K9 handler, who observed the scene and found no recent footprints or signs of care. The dogs were seized, and Jones became irate and disorderly, leading to his arrest on charges of animal cruelty, disorderly conduct, and neglect of animals.
The City Police took immediate action to care for the dogs, providing aid and assistance at the police station before transferring them to the SPCA. Unfortunately, the dog in the worst condition succumbed to its injuries. Jones was arraigned by Magistrate Luther and held on $10,000 cash bail at the McKean County Jail. The investigation is ongoing, with the City Police working closely with veterinary experts, the SPCA, and the District Attorney’s Office to gather additional evidence.
Chief of Police Michael P. Ward emphasized the department’s commitment to protecting the welfare of all living beings in the community, stating that animal cruelty will not be tolerated.
