Donations to the Holiday Meals Program operated by the Potter County Area Agency on Aging will help to ensure more older persons who needs a meal can get one. Each week, nearly 50 homebound senior citizens who are unable to cook for themselves receive hot or frozen nutritious lunches delivered to their doorstep. Many recipients live alone, are bedridden, disabled, lack a support system to help with meal preparation, or simply cannot afford to purchase nutritious food. The Home-Delivered Meals Program (commonly referred to as Meals on Wheels) provides more than just food. It offers an important opportunity for contact with the outside world. For many older people, the meal delivery provides the only chance of the day to talk with another person. Volunteers who deliver the meals regularly check on the well-being and safety of the recipients.
The Holiday Meals Program is an effort to reduce or eliminate the waiting list for this service. A gift of $25 will purchase meals for an older person in need for one week. For those wishing to make a donation in honor of, or in memory of, a family member or friend, the Area Agency on Aging will send a personalized card. Checks should be made payable to Potter County AAA and send to Area Agency on Aging, c/o Holiday Meals, P.O. Box 241, Roulette PA 16746. More information is available at 1-800-800-2560
