PORT ALLEGANY – The public is welcome to attend the annual Festival of Church Choirs on Saturday (today) at the Goochee property on Skinner Creek Road, Port Allegany.
Church choirs from across the region are participating. Guest speaker will be Andrea Hough, a contestant on the NBC-TV program, “Biggest Loser,” who will discuss how God has been a vital part of her life.

Bridge replacement
GALETON — A PennDOT maintenance crew has begun to replace a bridge in Pike Township, Potter County, near Sunderlinville. The project requires Phoenix Run Road to be closed.
The deteriorated bridge is being replaced with a precast box culvert. Although area drivers can use local roads around the closure, PennDOT’s official detour is 42 miles long.
Biomass planning continues
SMETHPORT – A new technology may be employed to make the biomass heating and power project in Smethport Borough more efficient.
During a recent meeting with borough leaders, consultants from First Renewable Energy recommended a new closed-circuit steam cycle system that is cleaner and more efficient than other models under consideration.
The Smethport Woody Biomass Project is a community-scale project using local wood resources. The borough is partnering with Penn State University, the Pa. Dept. of Conservation and Natural Resources and the U.S. Forest Service.
Car, Truck, Bike Show set
HARRISON VALLEY — Harrison Township Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show on Saturday, Sept. 11, from noon to 3 pm. Registration will open at 10.
Many prizes will be awarded to top entries. There will also be a flea market and a chicken barbecue. Booth space is available by contacting Lindsay Mearns at 814-334-5078.
