Welfare reform legislation that would call for random drug testing for recipients with recent drug convictions was approved Wednesday by the Pennsylvania House.
The bill is part of a package of welfare reform bills put forth by House Republicans in response to recent reports by the Auditor General of fraud and abuse in Pennsylvania’s assistance programs.
Bill sponsor Rep. Garth Everett (R-Lycoming) said his legislation is an effort to avoid the misuse of state funds and improve the effectiveness of welfare programs.
