1 min read

WHARTON TWP. – An Austin man is dead following a crash on the East Fork Road early this morning.

State Police in Coudersport say 64-year-old Timothy Rodger Foster, of Austin, was driving Northeast on East Fork Road, when his Chevrolet S-10 struck a downed tree in the roadway.

Police say the tree had fallen earlier, and was partially suspended in the air by a guide rail.

The front of Foster’s pickup truck traveled beneath the tree, while the upper half of the cab portion of the truck struck the tree. Following impact, the truck continued to travel in a Northeast direction for approximately 125 feet, where it left the roadway and traveled up an embankment for approximately 10 feet, before rolling backwards into a ditch, say police.

Foster was reported to have been deceased upon first contact by a passerby.

Police believe the crash happened at approximately 6 a.m.

Tpr. John G. Whitcomb, Cpl. Jacob Rothermel and Cpl. Sean Batterson of the PA State Police Coudersport were assisted at the scene by Austin Volunteer Fire Department, Galeton Volunteer Fire Department, Potter County Coroner Kevin Dusenbury, Potter County Deputy Coroner Kenneth Wingo, Tri-County Rural Electric, PennDOT and Kightlinger Motors.
