Co-Author of Timothy McVeigh Biography to Speak at Pitt-Bradford
1 min readBRADFORD – Lou Michel, co-author of “American Terrorist: Timothy McVeigh and the Oklahoma City Bombing” will speak next week at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford about his experience interviewing the most notorious American mass murderer.
Michel’s presentation, “Inside the Mind of the Oklahoma City Bomber: A Homegrown Domestic Terrorist,” will take place at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 16 in Rice Auditorium in Fisher Hall. The event, which is sponsored by the Pitt-Bradford Division of Communication and the Arts and the English composition program, is free and open to the public.
Michel, who had a 20-year career as an investigative reporter for The Buffalo News, started communicating by letter in 1997 with McVeigh, a native of nearby Lockport, N.Y.
Two years later, Michel, along with fellow reporter and co-author Dan Herbeck, began penning the only authorized biography of the American terrorist. Michel’s book is based on hundreds of personal letters and more than 70 hours of face-to-face interviews with McVeigh.
McVeigh was convicted of 11 federal offenses in the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Okla., the worst act of terrorism on American soil before Sept. 11, 2001. He was executed in June 2001.
