Community Blood Bank Announces Critical Blood Shortage
1 min readAfter heavy blood usage this past holiday weekend, the local inventory is dropping to critically low levels.
Currently, the O+ blood type is at 50 percent, well below the needed inventories at local hospitals.
The supply of O+ has been dropping for the past week and is now reaching critical levels. The Community Blood Bank is asking for donors to come in to donate to help end this shortage.
“Local patients are using all blood types, specifically O+,” says Brittany Yost, community outreach & program coordinator at the Community Blood Bank. “We are encouraging all donors, new and lapsed, to come in today to donate. The Community Blood Bank is the supplier to hospitals in Potter, McKean, Elk and Tioga Counties, which means, we need the support of our community to help end this shortage before it reaches dangerous levels.”
All donors are strongly encouraged to donate at the following drives:
- Wednesday, November 30th at Austin Area High School from 1:00 – 6:00 PM
- Monday, December 5th at Soliders + Sailors Memorial Hospital from Noon – 5 PM
- Wednesday, December 7th at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
