Corbett Signs Pa. Voter ID Mandate Bill
1 min readLess than eight months before the presidential election Gov. Tom Corbett signed the bill requiring a photo ID for voters. His signing came just a few hours after the Republican-controlled state House of Representatives passed it, 104-to-88, largely along partisan lines.
The photo ID requirement would go into effect for November’s presidential election. A court challenge to the requirement is expected. Many counties feel it will lengthen election day lines and cause voter confusion.
While Republicans claim it will combat voter fraud, Democrats feel it is an unconstitutional effort to suppress votes by those who traditionally support Democratic candidates.
