Coudersport Teen Suffers Major Injuries After Bicycle Struck by Car

COUDERSPORT – Benjamin J. Elliott, 19, of Coudersport, suffered major injuries and was flown via MercyFlight 5 medicopter to Robert Packer Memorial Hospital in Sayre after an accident Monday afternoon on Route 6.
Elliott was travelling west on Route 6 on a bicycle when he turned left onto the roadway without properly signaling. As a result he was struck by a 2007 Chevrolet Impala driven by Tommie A. Watkins, 67, of Helena, OH, who attempted without success to stop. Watkins vehicle skidded and then struck Elliott, ejecting him from the bicycle and onto the Impala’s hood.
Elliott suffered major injuries and was treated on scene by Coudersport Ambulance before being transported to a landing zone on Olmstead Road.
Neither Watkins nor his passenger Gwen D. Watkins, 56, of Helena, OH, were injured. Watkin’s vehicle suffered minor damage to the hood.
No charges have been filed.
