Registration deadline is Friday, Oct. 1, for the first in a series of local training sessions designed to prepare emergency services personnel for response to a natural gas wellsite incident. Potter County Department of Emergency Services is working with the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy to bring the program to the area. Those who do not register by Friday for the first session, Wellsite Emergency First Responder Training — being held at 1 pm Sunday, Oct. 10, at the Roulette Firehall — will not receive certification and may not receive the available handouts.
The natural gas industry is supporting the initiative, which features new components targeted specifically at public safety issues associated with shale gas production. It will cover a host of topics, from what to expect upon arriving at a well site, to how to coordinate with on-site industry personnel, giving first-responders the tools needed to effectively respond to the broad range of scenarios. Schedule for local training is as follows:
- Sunday, Oct. 10, 1 pm, Wellsite Emergency First Responder training, Roulette Firehall;
- Friday, Nov. 19, 9 am, Wild Well Control training program, Coudersport Fire Dept. Training Center;
- Saturday, Nov. 20, 9 am, Wild Well Control training, Emporium Firehall;
- Sunday, Nov. 21, 9 am, Wild Well Control training, Harrison Township Firehall.
