County Veterans Affairs Director Announces Retirement

Potter County Veterans Affairs Director Leonard Kalkrenner Jr. has announced his retirement, effective later this month. The Potter County Commissioners are accepting applications for the part-time position through Tuesday, Sept. 6. Applications and job descriptions are available at Potter County CareerLink, located on Rt. 6 in west Coudersport, and should be returned to that office. Responsibilities include advising and supporting veterans and their families in locating resources and obtaining their benefits; and, supporting veterans and their dependants in accordance with broad program policy and applicable laws.
Kalkbrenner, a decorated Army veteran of the Vietnam War, has served as veterans affairs director since April 2009. The commissioners describe his service to the county’s veteran population and veterans’ familiesĀ as "exemplary." Under his directorship, veterans’ benefit claims have reached record levels and the county has partnered with the Bath VA Medical Center to open a VA medical clinic in Potter County.
