A tragedy was averted at the Lycoming County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals on Sunday afternoon when an employee arrived to discover a fire and managed to safely evacuate a group of dogs and cats.
“Jan’s the hero. All the animals are safe,” SPCA Executive Director Victoria Stryker said of Jan Lechler, the facility’s kennel manager, who discovered a fire at the back of the SPCA’s three-bay garage when she arrived at the shelter at 2305 Reach Road just before 1 p.m.
