Fire Near Gas Well Drilling Site Extinguished

Huge explosion rocked town

AVELLA, Pa. — Firefighters reported that a fire near a gas well drilling site in Avella was out late Wednesday night.

The Department of Environmental Protection said the fire impacted three hydrolic fracking tanks used for Marcellus Shale drilling. Agents will monitor the scene overnight.

Neighbors said they heard explosions miles away from the drilling site along Meadowcraft Road.
