Ford Recalling 1.1 Million Trucks due to Gas Tank Hazard

1 min read

Ford Motor Company says it is recalling 1.1 million pickup trucks because the gas tanks can fall off the trucks and cause a fire.

The recall will affect certain models of Ford F-150, F-250 and Lincoln Blackwood pickups, from model year 1997 through 2004.

The trucks affected by the recall are said to have been sold in cold weather states, where salt is used to treat the roadways. The straps that hold up the gas tanks can become corroded from the salt, subsequently failing to support the gas tanks and allowing them to fall, possibly creating a rupture and fire.

Eight instances of tanks falling off the trucks have been reported, resulting in three injuries.

According to Ford, the F-series pickup trucks have been America’s best selling truck for some 33 straight years.
