1 min readBOLIVAR — The former Bolivar Joint Fire District treasurer, who allegedly stole over $119,000 from the district since Jan. 1, 2001, was arrested Wednesday.
The Amity-based state police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), assisted by Bolivar police, arrested Thomas J. Mooney, 60, of Bolivar. Mooney was charged with second-degree grand larceny.
The Daily Reporter first reported on this story on Aug. 2, but did not identify Mooney as the investigation was ongoing and an arrest had not been made.
The alleged theft was uncovered during a state Comptroller’s Office audit of the district. Mooney resigned March 15, while the audit was being done.
