FREEDOM, NY – On Tuesday afternoon,, Edward Kelsch, 46, was working on a clogged manure spreader, when he was overtaken by methane fumes.
A co-worker of Kelsch’s, Timothy Schwab, 27, attempted to aide Kelsch by jumping in the tank to rescue him, but also succumbed to the methane fumes.
Other farm workers eventually helped get the two men out of the tank, but Schwab was pronounced dead after arriving at the hospital.
Kelsch remains in critical condition.
Something like this should never happen. My heart goes out to the families. This is sad.
