COUDERSPORT – A Troop Commander’s Letter of Appreciation was recently given to Stanley R. Goodwin, of Coudersport, PA, for his efforts and community service commitments. The letter was presented by Captain Donald C. Peters, the Commander of Troop F – of the Pennsylvania State Police.
In a news release, Cpl. Michael Murray of the Coudersport-based State Police barracks said Mr. Goodwin’s efforts assisted several county law enforcement agencies and resulted in cost savings for Pennsylvania taxpayers.
Murray said, “The letter was a long overdue appreciation letter for Mr. Goodwin’s efforts and community service commitments, particularly involving the PSP. Mr. Goodwin donated countless hours of his time, materials and heavy equipment in the design and construction of a shooting range, located behind the Troop F – Coudersport Station. This was at a time in which the private shooting range used during the spring and fall firearms qualifications, by members of Potter County Law Enforcement, as well as Tioga and Cameron County Law Enforcement, was being closed. After a search for a suitable replacement range was unsuccessful, Mr. Goodwin offered to design and build a shooting range.
“The shooting range is used by the Pennsylvania State Police Coudersport, Mansfield and Emporium Stations. It is, or has been used, by every municipal police department in Potter County, as well as members of the Game Commission, Fish Commission, DCNR and other law enforcement. It is used for practice and qualifications. Mr. Goodwin’s efforts have resulted in a cost savings to the taxpayers of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Potter County. This is realized through a real dollar savings in construction and design costs as well as continuing travel costs.”
