Half-Century Of Local Tourist Promotion
1 min readFrom Potter County Today
Potter County Visitors Association is observing its golden anniversary this year and looking to expand its reach in drawing tourists to the region. PCVA started as the Denton Hill Recreation Association in 1952 and was later operated for many years as Potter County Recreation Inc. PCVA’s mission is to enhance local economic development and quality of life by promoting tourism and recreational opportunities in Potter County. Business membership stands at about 185.
The agency’s two major funding sources are membership fees and proceeds of a three-percent tax applied to room charges at hotels, motels and other lodging facilities in the county. State funding has been drastically reduced in recent years. Marketing and promotion are conducted through the internet, prominent appearances at many events, advertisements/articles and event sponsorships. PCVA is also allied with regional agencies such as the Pennsylvania Wilds, Pennsylvania Route 6 Tourist Association and the Pennsylvania Lumber Heritage Region.
PCVA is putting the finishing touches on its 2012 Potter County Calendar of Events, which is widely circulated. For more information, send an email to potter@penn.com; log onto the website, pottercountypa.org; or call 814-274-3365.
