Shortly before 9am today Galeton Dept 10 was dispatched for a reported structure fire on Telescope Road in Ulysses Township. Ambulance Chief 10-60 arrived on scene shortly after the dispatch and reported heavy smoke showing with other structures endangered. Additional units from Tri-Town (Ulysses) Dept. 47, Coudersport Dept. 48 and Germainia Dept 19 were requested to respond to the scene. Water supply was established by Engine 10-2 which set-up a drafting operation at a nearby stream. This supplied Engines 10-3 and 47-3 as well as Ladder 10-9 which had all deployed attack lines to quell the blaze. Although the garage sustained substantial damage the damage to the main house was limited primarily to the attic area with some water damage to the lower floors. Units were on scene for approximately 3 hours.

Update: The damages to the home, owned by Kathleen Becker, are estimated at $30,000. The fire, which destroyed the garage, is believed to have been started by a defective wood stove and chimney.
My thoughts go out to the Becker family.
