GOWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) – Air One is helping in a rescue for a lost hunter in Zoar Valley.

The DEC confirms a hunter is missing and that NYS Forest Rangers from Region 9 are in Zoar Valley searching for the man with the help of Erie County’s Air One helicopter. Rescuers are reporting that a hunter has been spotted in the Cattaraugus Creek between two high cliffs. Air One managed to get a life preserver on him, but he is badly injured and rescuers are still trying to get him out. Rescuers say he has a severe head injury.

Air One has had to land and is unable to make it back to the heliport because of low fuel. The helicopter can’t continue in the rescue until fuel is trucked out to Zoar Valley. Rescuers are not sure how they will get the hunter out of the rain-swollen creek.
