Jury Deliberations Continue Today in ‘Kids for Cash’ Trial
1 min readA jury will continue deliberations today in the trial of a former Pennsylvania Judge accused of jailing children for money.
Former Luzerne County Judge Mark Ciavarella is accused of taking more than $2.8 million in kickbacks to shut down Luzerne County’s only state-run juvenile detention center and then unjustly sending teenagers to for-profit detention centers, based on minor offenses.
Ciavarella has been charged with racketeering, fraud, money laundering, extortion, bribery and federal tax violations.
Jury deliberations, which began yesterday, are scheduled to begin again at 8:30 am this morning in Scranton.
